Key Deer may be penned to stem screwworm outbreak

In an attempt to save the endangered Key deer and quell a screwworm outbreak that’s killed 121 of the animals as of Sunday, federal wildlife managers may corral a number of healthy animals. Meanwhile, veterinarians are treating deer that are already infected by sedating them, manually cleaning the wounds and applying medications, and the anti-parasitic agent doramectin is being distributed by biologists.Miami Herald (tiered subscription model) (10/31)
