Fight against Florida screwworm ramps up

As of Tuesday, 114 Key deer had died or been euthanized amid the screwworm outbreak in Florida, and officials are stepping up efforts to eradicate the parasites. Volunteers, biologists and veterinarians are working together to bait deer for prophylactic treatment while entomologists release modified flies to breed sterility into the screwworm fly population so that it will eventually die out.Miami Herald (tiered subscription model) (10/25)
