Shelter’s genetic testing promotion has dogs flying out the door

The Peninsula Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Burlingame, Calif., did DNA testing of some dogs to determine their breed makeup, and they found a group of tested dogs was adopted twice as fast as similar untested dogs. The “Who’s Your Daddy?” campaign was the brainchild of Scott Delucchi, senior vice president of the shelter, who wanted to improve adoption rates for the Chihuahua mixes that have dominated the shelter in recent years.
