Toucan set to receive prosthetic beak after attack

A toucan called Grecia lost most of his beak in an attack by youths in Costa Rica. Public outrage ensued as the story spread, and thousands of dollars were raised to help Grecia get a prosthetic beak. Veterinarian Carmen Soto is caring for Grecia until the prosthesis can be made. Dr. Soto reported that he’s eating small amounts on his own already. She plans for the bird to undergo imaging when he’s ready to prepare for the prosthesis. BBC (2/11)
